The drama is not yet over, with an assessment and decision yet to be made as to how to get the Farr 80, Beau Geste back from Norfolk Island.. She has been joined in Cascade Bay on Norfolk Island by Icebreaker and Starlight Express. All three have withdrawn from the race.

This was a very good effort from David Nathan and his crew, against some very strong competition from Akatea and Kia Kaha.
The race has also been a testimony to the safety standards in place and the work of the crews in getting their boats up to the required standard.

In contrast to overseas races, there has been no loss of life, when conditions have been very testing to say the least. No boats have sunk or been abandoned, although obviously there have been some close calls.
Those who have elected to withdraw, have made a difficult but prudent decision, and should be respected for that. The professionalism of the Rescue Coordination Centre NZ, was once again put to the test, and they did an excellent and very slick job with both the Beau Geste incident, and getting the information to the media.
The other event of interest is the Skandia Sail For Gold regatta, being sailed, off Weymouth, England. It is both the last major event before the 2012 Olympics at the same venue. Also it is the sixth round of the ISAF World Cup.
After three days the New Zealand team is turning in a very mixed performance. In the Mens and Womens Two-hander, the 2012 Olympic representatives have both hit their straps, when the breeze cracked in, and both are in the two two in their event.
Outside that, after three days racing, only one of the 2012 Olympic representatives is in the top ten. With a few days left to run in the regatta, the hope is that these results will improve.
The other big news is the revelation that Team Korea are close to ponying up with the $200,000 entry fee for the 34th America's Cup, and the team principal is reported to have said that the team will be building an AC72.
