Camper ROI on sailing, Rivergate new approach, AIMEX Dubai success

What a week! I haven't got my land legs yet, and nor do I want to. Is it too uncouth to wander around the Gold Coast, doing the groceries, dropping kids off at school with wet weather gear on, my Camper grippy shoes and a squint like I am checking wind direction?

As a guest of Camper Emirates Team New Zealand, my husband (photographer/cameraman) and I spent two intense and insightful days with the world's best sailing teams and their support professionals. 'Like playing tennis with Federer,' was the description from the Volvo Ocean Race director. And it was.

Look like a sailor  Jeni Bone

There is so much more to ocean racing than high-tech yachts ('seagoing bulldozers' according to Camper manager and sailing legend, Grant Dalton) and 11 of the world's best sailors on each vessel. Dalia Saliamonas, marketing director for Camper uses the haute couture (high fashion) analogy to explain that innovations in performance clothing, technology and the festivities of the VOR trickle down from elite sailing to the boating community and general public, hence the brand's multi-million dollar investment in this global event.

So how does it wash down to the rest of the marine industry, what's in it for sponsors and stopover venues, what do you get for your $25-40 million? How can Australia get a slice?

Along with this major feature, we bring you reviews from Dubai International Boat Show, where AIMEX experienced success and good feedback about Australian companies and their quality products, some more news from Rivergate International Boat Show and plenty of other launches, releases and reveals.

There are small business seminars on offer from Marine Queensland, so if you can get to Brisbane during April and early May, they may be a great tool for growing and developing your business.

Stay on board for more throughout the week and BIG NEWS from Taiwan in particular.
