STILL up for grabs, after all these years... There can't be many sailing records still standing after 20 years, but it was in 1990 that the current Around Hong Kong record - the Cariad Trophy - was set at 2h 41m 57s. One of the crewmembers on the Hobie 21 that day, Paul Zimmerman, said that he is "surprised that no one has managed to beat the record since then, given the advancement in recent boat design. Maybe people have forgotten that there is a record out there to beat?". This is the reminder!

It was blustery stuff for another Around the Island Race recently - take a look at the images from the annual Isle of Wight circumnavigation. They remind me why I prefer Phuket to Portsmouth, and Hong Kong to the Hamble.

Visiting luxury motor yachts - superyachts - are getting bigger and arriving in Asia in increasing numbers. Yacht Solutions, in Bangkok, are banking on a boom in business - they now have haul-out facilities for a maximum of 85 metres and 1,500 tonnes as well as access to two 115 metre dry docks, alongside berthing, two floating docks up to 160m and 3000 tonnes lift capacity. Time to get the dinghy lifted, methinks.
