Welcome to Sail-World Canada

The Canadian Sailing Team is in Palma!

The Velux 5 Oceans skippers are also facing a variety of challenges on their quest towards North America. While Gutek will soon find out whether the makeshift repairs to his broken bowsprit will hold, in the lead, Brad van Liew has to contend with very light conditions around the equator. This is a significant change of pace following the frequently changing conditions he survived last week, 'Worst sailing conditions of my life' he claimed; to add insult to injury, giant flying fish attacked him while he stood in the cockpit! Derek has entered stealth mode again, hoping to gain tactical advantage on the fleet by hiding his position for 24 hours.

As expected, Jean-Pierre Dick and Loick Peyron on Virbac-Paprec 3 were the first ones back in Barcelona following their Barcelona World Race circumnavigation. Following in second place, the MAPFRE Spanish team, composed of Olympic medalists Iker Martinez and Xabi Fernandez was greeted by a huge home town crowd. With less than 100 miles to go, another Spanish team, Renault ZE, will likely complete the podium when Pachi Rivero and Antonio Piris reach Barcelone tomorrow. Who knew that the Spaniards were the new worldwide offshore leaders! Congratulations to all the skippers!

The Canadian Yachting Association is looking to improve overall communication about the progressive developments happening across the broad spectrum of CYA activities. They have developed a survey in the hope that you will be able to help them learn how to communicate more effectively. Please visit and take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire. You are also welcome to use the comment boxes to express any views you may have over and above the questions asked. All respondents will be entered in a draw, with the first drawn getting a CYA Olympic Dry Bag; second and third drawn will get CYA 2nd Skin fleece tops.

The Builders of C&C Yachts were awarded the Ontario Sailing's Legend of Ontario Sailors Award presented by Canadian Yachting Magazine at the Celebration of Sailing Island Gala last Saturday at The Boulevard Club in Toronto.

The Builders of C&C Yachts

Honored were George Hinterhoeller, Rob Ball, Ian Morch, George Cassian, Erich Bruckmann and George Cuthbertson.

See you in the boatyard soon!

All the best!

Princess Sophia - 2 Races, 2 Different Breeze Conditions for Canada
