Boating and Boats - news and views

Come aboard, join the party; ok, ok, we're not really having a party (sadly!), but we're ready to bring you right up to date with all the news worth knowing from all around this wonderful world.

If powerboat racing is your go, you'll learn that Australia's Offshore Superboat Championships have toughened up the racing rules, while Powerboat P1 is to launch an innovative Jet Ski championship series.

Class 1 World Powerboat Championship  Simon Palfrader

Across the ditch, otherwise known as the Tasman Sea, things are hotting up for the New Zealand Offshore championships.

We also take a look at one of the lesser-known (in this part of the world, anyway), but major American manufacturers, Tiara Yachts.

And while discussing things American, read about the life and times of an industry legend by the name of Gordon Houser.

Those of you with the latest cellular equipment can now download an App that presents as an ‘Ultimate Guide to Australia's Great Barrier Reef'.

Definitely worth the effort.

Now I know you're going to like this; the Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies is out to convince us that fish are not as dumb as we perhaps think???

I think I'll avoid that one and just stick to eating them.

Finally, a word of warning for boaters on the NSW South Coast; NSW Maritime says a number of navigational aids have been swamped or displaced recently due to heavy rain in the region.

Take extra care, we have no desire to lose any of our readers.

Wander through the words and keep us in mind when you have any spare moments; we update constantly and endeavour (hey, that would be a good name for a barque) to bring the news as it happens.

Bob Wonders

Fish know how to avoid the spear

HAWC 11M building in Hong Kong
Guy Nowell,,
And now for something completely different. Well, a little different, at any rate. Boat designers and naval architects are always looking for ways to increase speed and fuel efficiency.
