Superior scoops top award, Women's lunch inspires, new marina portal
It's always fascinating when fashion brands align with boating legends to produce a vessel that is lustworthy as well as seaworthy. Gucci has done just that, working with Riva and Officina Italiana Design, which created the original Aquariva in 2000.
Now as to whether many of us will see one of these beauties out and about is another thing. But it certainly generates broad public interest and effusive and valuable column-centimetres in the mainstream media.
Gucci, Ferragamo (Swan), Princess (LVMH) and there are probably more, have realised the synergies between their products and the publicity that seems to follow fashion houses and their coterie of models and celebrities. Sunseeker has always done it so well, with alignments around the world with fashion and automotive brands.
Anyhow, take a peek at the new bespoke Aquariva by Gucci. Santa is just weeks away, so add it to your wish list and if you've been really, really good . . .
This week, along with the eye candy, we have plenty of business news. Superior Jetties has taken out the Gold Coast's highest accolade, winning Business of the Year for 2010. This is great news for a marine company, and testament to the Superior strategies of diversifying and exporting.
There's also a wrap up of the inaugural Women in Marine Business lunch last week, hosted by the BIA Vic and organised with such aplomb by Jayne Piercy.
Nancy Knudsen, Sail-World.com cruising editor (actor, sailor, tourism and aviation pioneer and now author) was the special guest speaker. Guests – and there were some men among the ladies – certainly got their money's worth! Nancy was a powerful, yet serene presence and inspired everybody with her humorous epithets gathered from her career and circumnavigation. Her first book, 'Flying Fish, Falling Stars' will be out in May next year.
Tomorrow, I will meet the new head of events at Sanctuary Cove, which includes the country's favourite (I am biased, I'll admit) boat show. Sue Thomson joins the SCIBS team from an impressive background involved in major events. Pop back in to read about the innovations planned for 2011.
Keep your news flowing in and have a great week!
Jeni Bone, editor
