Ahoy and welcome aboard as we troll our way through another edition of Powerboat-World.
Plenty of talk about this week, tempered sadly with the news that Australian water ski racing lost one of its greats with the passing of veteran Norm Griffin.
All at Powerboat-World pass on deepest condolences to the family.
On the powerboat racing front, it's been action stations around the world, from the USA, to Australia, to the Middle East to Europe.
Rememeber this is the Bridge to Bridge Weekend - NSW Maritime has granted exclusive use to a section of the Hawkesbury River to allow the Bridge to Bridge water-ski race to take place on November 20 and 21.
NSW Maritime Chief Executive Steve Dunn said eight NSW Maritime Boating Safety Officers and patrol vessels would be on hand on Sunday the 21st to assist with the staging of the popular ski event, which begins at Dangar Island, near Brooklyn, and proceeds along the length of the Hawkesbury River finishing in the historic town of Windsor.
'Due to the potential to affect safe navigation, NSW Maritime has granted event organisers exclusive use of the width of the river from 8am to 5pm on Saturday from Sackville Ski Gardens to Windsor Bridge, and from 8am to 5pm on Sunday from Dangar Island to the Windsor Bridge,' Mr Dunn said. Down in the Victorian city of Geelong, reigning Class 1 titleholders in the Offshore Superboat Championships, Tom Barry-Cotter and Pal Virik Nilse claimed two from two to keep their title defence in sight.
Down in the deep south of the USA, Super Boat International staged the 30th running of the legendary Key West Offshore titles which attracted ‘record crowds.'
It really is all happening!
Up on the Queensland Gold Coast, the management at the Runaway Bay Marina got together with the marina's tenants and staged a Boating Expo, which attracted worthwhile attendance over the weekend.
On the Saturday, Marine Auctions held one of its well-attended auctions on the marina, the highlight being the sale of a 70' Sunseeker Manhattan which attracted a winning bid well above the reserve.
A proverbial pat on the back, too for the Boating Industry Associaiton of NSW and NSW Maritime; the two combined to donate 400 life jackets for use by instructors across NSW.
NSW Maritime has also produced a handy boater's handbook.
This week there is news of the legal consequences of a nasty water skiing accident and a salutory warning.
So it's all here, folks, stuff you really care about and want to read and stuff that might not interest you all that much, but you'll read it anyway.
Maybe we can't please everyone, but we give it our best shot every week.
Keep calling back, by the way, as we endeavour (hey, that's a good name for a boat) to update the site with the news as it happens.
