Net trumps traditional media, Zhik's global view, FLIBS, METS and more
This week we have more indication that while there is no boom on the horizon, the gloom and doom have been dispelled and 'the market' is back to spending its discretionary. News from Ft Lauderdale International Boat Show is of surprising sales, optimism and new customers expressing interest in the boating lifestyle - and not just luxury!
We have more on FLIBS, a preview of METS, plenty of new products, a great interview with Brent Vaughan from Aussie multihull brand Seawind about the recent purchase of Corsair and how it will impact both brands, and the revelation of 'ridiculously ambitious' plans from Brian Connolly, CEO of Zhik sailing gear.
The NMMA recently commissioned a survey of what seals the deal with customers looking to buy boats and the results show: the experience at the dealership, research from reports online and hands-on trials and tactile encounters at boat shows are the top three. Can't disagree with that.
In this Internet world, recent survey found that more than 90% of car buyers have used the Internet to research potential products and understandably, automotive magazines are losing traction very rapidly. Boat dealers are reporting similar findings.
As boaters world-wide vote with their mouses, the Tetra Media group which runs Sail-World.com, Sail-World Cruising, Powerboat-world, MarineBusiness-world will be adding another FOUR titles to its publication list in 2011, bringing their total to 16 websites across Australia, Asia, New Zealand, the America's, Europe, Africa and the UK.
