What with the China Cup, and boat shows in Xiamen and Shenzhen, there's plenty to talk about in Asia at the moment, even if we don't always agree with the official version. Start the week with some independent opinions.

China (Shenzhen) International Boat Show 2010 - SIBEX

There are about a hundred exhibitors shore side, and 52 boats in the in-water exhibition to attract visitors. SIBEX is a great place to find both International and Chinese brands at the same place. There were plenty of well-known names - s Beneteau, Feretti, Sunseeker, Azimut, Jeanneau, Bavaria, Meridian and many more, and then also the presence of several Chinese brands as HeySea, Applause... Corsairs heading to Phuket for Phuket King's Cup Regatta

Route du Rhum - Actual suffers damage to cross beam
At 0100hrs (CET) this morning (Monday) Yves le Blevec, skipper of the Multi 50 Actual informed his team and the Route du Rhum-La Banque Postale race director that the trimaran has sustained damage to the forward starboard cross beam. The situation is reported to have been stabilised.... [more]

After a long night for the Oman Air Majan team, they are pleased to report that skipper Sidney Gavignet is now safely onboard the bulk carrier Kavo Alexander. The incident which occurred at 1635 CET yesterday (03.11.10) was dealt with swiftly by the shore team, race management, rescue teams and crew of the Kavo Alexander who ensured Sidney's rescue within four hours or his first call.... Ocean racer Derek Hatfield made a special offering to Neptune as he passed the Equator yesterday – by shaving off his iconic moustache. America's Cup: First of the AC45's begins layup in Warkworth

Last Monday, Ivor Wilkins from revisited the Core Composites building facility in Warkworth 40 minutes drive north of Auckland, and found the first of the new AC45 one design class was being laid up in the female moulds. This boat is scheduled for launch at the end of next month, and will be owned by BMW Oracle as a spare boat for the America's Cup World Series.... [more]
