Worldwide Boating News

Welcome aboard to this week's issue of Powerboat-World, and as usual we're bringing to a screen near you all the news that matters to boaters everywhere.

On the navigation front, it's fast reaching the stage, thanks to digital cartography and high-tech instrumentation that it's going to take a very clever navigator to get lost!

Jeppesen Marine's C-MAP charts are recognised worldwide for their accuracy and now the world leader has introduced charts to enable a link to Furuno NavNet 3D users.

Plenty of powerboat racing news, too, and what I wouldn't give to be on the banks of New York's Hudson River when the super boats blast past in the 20th annual New York Grand Prix.

In Europe, the International Offshore Team Association (IOTA) has applied to the UIM for promotional rights to Class 1 offshore racing for the next five years and we preview the P1 racers as they line up for the Southampton Grand Prix.

Apparently all is not yet well with the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico; scientists from the renowned Wood Hole Oceanographic Institute are still expressing concern and have discovered somewhat troubling hydrocarbon plumes estimated at 22-miles in length.

Obviously a worry, particularly for those living and working on or near the fabulous Gulf coast.

An interesting problem for a Lake Macquarie sailing event. Organisers for the Heaven Can Wait regatta that runs on the October Long Weekend, sailing 28.5 nautical miles around the Lake and the bigger boats sailing on for 24 hours.

It has a traditional yacht racing fleet entering the event but now the high tech super fast 12 foot long foilng Moths, that can reach 30knots will be blasting ahead of the fleet, being chased by 18 footers.

Suddenly the event needs some RIBS to keep up with these little beasties, its a perfect promo. opportunity for manufacturers, importers and distributors who want to promote their newest boats. all about it...

There, something to whet your whistle, but read on, plenty more to keep your interest and don't forget, we never sleep (that's our story, anyway) and we'll deliver the news that matters as it happens.
