Sail-World New Zealand: 02 September 2010

Andrew Maloney,NZL 195541 gets off to a flying start in the 2010 Laser Worlds at Hayling  RS:X Class .
Welcome to's New Zealand newsletter for 2 September 2010

The NZL Sailing Team continues to make a big foot print on the World Championship sailing circuit.

Currently the NZ National Team have four sailors in the top ten in the 2010 Laser Worlds at Hayling Island, England.

And two sailors in the top eight of the Mens fleet in the RS:X Worlds being sailed in Denmark

We're updating these results plus the Womens fleet in the RS:X Worlds and the Finn Worlds in San Francisco.

Stay tuned to for the latest updates as they happen.

Georgia Racing finished on the podium at Hamilton Island  .. .

In St Moritz, BlackMatch Racing have got back on song and were well placed in that event after the first day's racing. We have their report in this edition.

On Tuesday, the Protocol for the 34th America's Cup was not announced as promised, in its place came the announcement of a media conference at the BMW Oracle Racing base in Valencia on Monday 13 September, local time.

There it is promised that the Protocol will be announced and signed between the Defender and Challenger, and the boat will be named for the 34th Match expected to be held in 2014.

The expectation from Rumour Control is that a 70ft multihull (catamaran) will be announced and that the circuit for 2011 will be staged using Extreme 40's and RC44's. Whether that proves to be the case is another matter, as is the appetite to compete on this circuit by the high profile existing America's Cup teams.

There is little point in speculating at this stage, but at Sail-World we will outline our view of the issues in the next day or so.

JP Tobin (NZL) 2010 RS:X Worlds, Denmark  RS:X Class .

In this issue we welcome aboard two new advertisers, Goldcore Light plywood and Altex Yacht and Boat Paint. Goldcore Light is the latest development in lightweight plywoods. It is specifically manufactured for the marine cabinetry/ fit out market and is unique in a number of ways - see for yourself.

It seems hard to believe but Altex Paints have been manufacturing high quality long lasting marine paints and related products for over half a century. They cover your complete boat paint needs from P class to superyachts. And don't forget to check out their 'Colour your boat' simulator here

Giorgio - Finn Gold Cup  Robert Deaves

At Sail-World, we have changed our submission system so that you can load images and stories in the one frame. The change is a big improvement and we have been using it ourselves for story and image compilation - very simple. One of the features of the system is that you get an automated acknowledgment when the story is put online together with a link and advice as to which world regions the story has been posted.

Michael Bullot,NZL 192703 - Laser World Championships  Paul Wyeth / RYA

Thanks for your help and input, we're here to help sailing, and help those who wish to help themselves.

Good sailing!
