Championships aplenty! All the latest sailing news

Welcome to this week's edition of our Europe newsletter.

The 470 Worlds are about to start, the 49er Europeans have just concluded, the B14 Europeans have been sailed at Carnac in France, and the Worlds are about to start. Match Cup Sweden has a new King and Queen.

The Opti Europeans and the F18 Worlds have just finished in Poland, the MedCup is gearing up for another event on the Circuit, the ORCi Europeans are being sailed in Sardinia, the IFDS Worlds, the RS:X Europeans, the Platu 25 Worlds ... we have these stories and much more in the latest edition of our Sail-World newsletter.

During a penalty flag festooned semi final today on the last day of Stena Match Cup Sweden Jesper Radich (DEN) Radich Racing Team smoked Magnus Holmberg (SWE) Sigma Racing Team 3-0. F18 Worlds 2010 Erguy France -provisional results 24 hours after event,
F18 Worlds 2010 organisers have finally been able to present a set of provisional results. The official explanation is that their software could not order the tiebreaks correctly so nothing was posted. Seems that they could not get two race officials to sit together to add an extra manual sort column and produce a set of results. Might have even had to sit up quite late. Say another 30 minutes? Westward Cup Regatta finishes in style

The final day's racing in the Westward Cup Regatta took place in the Solent yesterday, Saturday 10th July, with the four competing yachts getting the gun at 1100 to allow the breeze to build nicely and get these massive yachts off and running. IFDS Worlds 2010 - For today there was only one race scheduled. At the start there was a gentle breeze, 5-8 knts from the SW, decreasing during the race. The 2.4mR class had some problems with the starting, caused by major windshifts and a general recall. When they are finally off, the wind started to decrease.... [more]

The 49er European Championship for 2010 in Gdynia, Poland was secured by Chris Draper and Peter Greenhalgh in a Baltic breeze of 10 knots. With a 6-point lead into the medal race, the duo was forced to the wrong side after the start but managed to climb back and round the weather mark fourth. With a 4-lap course, they slowly worked through the fleet to finish third in the race and earn the title.... [more]

The Medal Races wrapped up the action at the RS:X European Championships in Sopot, Poland today with Shahar Zubari (ISR) and Marina Alabau (ESP) both retaining their titles. First out onto the windward Leeward course was the mens fleet. Clipper 09-10 - Flying start gets underway from Cork, Ireland

The second last race of the Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race is underway. At 1700 local time (1600 GMT) the cannon fired from the Royal Cork Yacht Club's start line at Weaver's Point near Crosshaven at the mouth of Cork Harbour to set the teams on their way in the 550-mile race to Ijmuiden, Holland.... Westward Cup Regatta - There was all to play for today when the breeze finally kicked in and saw the four competing yachts in the Cup jostling for line position, eventually getting the gun at 1130hrs. Larry Ellison's hometown, San Francisco, has been named as the sole US Defence venue option for the 34th America's Cup by the Defender Golden Gate Yacht Club. In a just released statement, Golden Gate YC syas that the West Coast city 'has put forward a strong, wellrounded venue proposal, and is now the only city in the USA under consideration to host the 34th America's Cup match.'... Optimist European Championship. Tricky wind conditions made it a difficult day for racing, not only for the sailors but also for the Race Committee. Races started in the afternoon in 12 knots of wind which gradually dropped to 3-4 knots.
