Welcome to Sail-World Canada

Cape Breton Heads to New York

Cape Breton Island leads the Clipper Round the World fleet through the start line in Jamaica on the 1420-mile race to New York City, a course that will take them past the island of Cuba and up the east coast of North America, following the Gulf Stream current. This promises to be an exciting leg! Following a short stopover in New York City, the entire fleet is expected in Sydney, Nova Scotia around June 12th, where they will spend a week preparing for the Atlantic crossing.

Meanwhile, in France, Derek Hatfield is getting the new Spirit of Canada ready for its Atlantic crossing that will bring the Open 60 to Lunenberg, NS to finalize race preparations before returning to Europe in September for the 2010 Velux 5 Oceans in October.

Match racing enthusiasts will be delighted with the current stop on the Louis Vuitton Trophy circuit; the familiar America's Cup Class yachts are competing in La Maddalena-Sardinia in the traditional round robin format until June 6th. All the action can be viewed live at

See you soon on the water!
