Welcome to's USA newsletter for 26 May 2010.

Crash and burn came to La Maddalena, Sardinia, yesterday. A serious collision in the Louis Vuitton Trophy series yesterday between Aleph (FRA) and Azzurra (ITA) will have a serious impact on the race schedule - already behind because of the light winds.

We have images and video of the carnage - which is not pretty and frankly, rather distressing.

Despite various attempts to keep the borrowed boats apart, we seem to see serious incidents in most of these regattas - usually caused by communication issues between the front and back ends of the boats, compounded by crews who haven't quite found their combinations.

Hopefully the shore crews will be able to repair the damage before the end of the series. But it will be a Herculean task compounded by the fact that La Maddalena is a not Anacortes, and there are no substantial boatbuilding facilities nearby.

For the US team, La Maddalena has been a fall to Earth after the dizzy heights of Valencia. Look at the replays and interviews on (see the link at the top of the website) as well John Kostecki explains the situation and issues ahead of BMW Oracle Racing.

The Sardinian weather seems to be spreading to the semi-final round of the 2010 ICSA Women's National Championship on Lake Mendota. We have reports on the regatta - and the lack of racing in this edition. Stay tuned to for the latest updates.

Anna Tunnicliffe reports in this edition on the US Match Race Championships: Area D/F Quarter-Finals, where she crewed for husband Brad Funk. She says: "It was Brad's first match race event and he asked me to be tactician for him. It was a great experience for me to be at the other end of the boat. He did very well..."

Racing has just started in the Delta Lloyd Regatta at Medemblik, Holland - the fifth round in the ISAF World Sailing Cup. We will be updating each day on with reports from this major sailing event.

Don't miss your opportunity to win one of ten copies of PredictWind, the world's leading wind and weather forecasting system developed for sailors - whether racing or cruising.
