Chicago Match Race Centre Spring Invitational 2010 CMRC - Chicago Match Race Center
Welcome to Sail-World.com's USA newsletter for 18 May 2010.
The first tangible step in the 34th America's Cup is underway, with the convening of the first Designer's Conference in Valencia.
There was no announcement of the event, and no mention of it on the official America's Cup website - however about 20 designers are believed to have attended, including the designer of two America's Cup winners for Team Alinghi, Rolf Vrolijk.

We have a brief report in this issue and links to sites covering the event in Valencia.
Emirates Team NZ have continued where they left off at the 2009 Audi MedCup with an impressive 20pt margin over the second placed Audi Powered by All4One (FRA)

Conditions were ideal in Cascais, and the video of the racing is just awesome.
As a correspondent pointed out in our Sail-World Mail Bag - 'which looks more spectacular - a monohull going at 22kts or a multihull doing 22kts?' You have the answer, we believe, in the Audi MedCup video.
In the last three days of reports from the Audi MedCup we have inserted video into the regatta report - the downwind legs are just sensational.
Banque Populaire on her Trans-Med record run
Staying with the Mediterranean we have a video taken aboard Banque Populaire , as she set a new (yet to be ratified mark) for a Trans-Med crossing from Marseilles to Cathage, Tunisia - clocking at over 43kts at one point.
Just five days remain until the start of the second round of the Louis Vuitton Trophy in La Maddelena, Italy. This will be the first appearance for the America's Cup Defenders BMW Oracle Racing and there will be considerable interest in how they fare against the other teams who already have one Louis Vuitton Trophy plus and Audi MedCup under their belts.
Currently the mistral in blowing which has reduced the time available for practice. We have a report in this edition., and will be updating during the week on www.sail-world.com/usa
