If you haven't sailed in the Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta then you really haven't ‘done' Asia. The Raja Muda is the most infuriating and challenging racing on the calendar - and its unique mix of cans and distance racing, ‘circus on the move' atmosphere, and parties and racing packed together for eight unrelenting days, makes it a real tour de force, a sort of marathon triathlon on water. Read all about it.
There's a Hong Kong Team getting ready to strut their stuff in the Commodores' Cup in Cowes, Jessica Watson arriving home after her short-course circumnavigation, the Singapore SB3 fleet inviting you to get your feet wet, and some fairly serious pronouncements from ISAF's Olympic Commission. Plenty to read.
And in an entirely novel bid to popularize – or at least show off - sailing to a large number of people in China, the Beijing Sailing Centre is organising the ‘BSC Ladies Cup 2010' this weekend 22/23 May. Seven prominent VIP Beijing ladies, all sailing novices, and one of them a member of the CPPCC, will spend a day and half learning to sail in Omega dinghies, and then race for bragging rights on Sunday afternoon. Ladies, apply your sunscreen! Go! We'll bring you reports on this interesting little PR event just as soon as we receive them.
