Welcome to Sail-World.Com's US newsletter for 24 April 2010.
The Newport Ensenda Race got underway yesterday in light winds, with a fleet of 215 yachts facing the starter.
A late entry was Chris Welsh's 44 year old Ragtime, hoping to add to her illustrious racing record.

Emirates Team New Zealand's Volvo Ocean Race entry, Camper, took another step down its fast tracked program on Thursday afternoon, with the announcement of Australian Chris Nicholson as skipper, and young Kiwi match racer, Adam Minoprio as one of three under 30 crew.
Emirates Team New Zealand would have us believe that this whole effort came together in just three weeks, which if correct is absolutely remarkable. In this edition we have gone back and looked over some interviews, announcements and other comment, plus the information/rumour that gets fed through from international sources.

The other point of interest is the entry into the Volvo Ocean Race of established professional teams with their own bases, design, engineering, support and sailing teams has added a new level of interest to the next Volvo Ocean Race - and with Emirates Team New Zealand, Groupama and the expected announcement by Alinghi - the event has definitely lifted to a new level.
No news from the America's Cup - save for a report that all will be revealed in May. Quite how this will all dovetail together remains to be seen. Certainly as we have seen with the 2011-12 Volvo, the established America's Cup teams have moved across to the Volvo Ocean Race, albeit keeping their powder dry in regards to the 34th America's Cup.
