Editorial, January 18, '10.

Welcome aboard for another edition of Powerboat-World.

Still rather quiet around the waterfront, with many only returning from the Christmas vacation period in the last few days. Nevertheless, we're still here to bring you all the powerboat news that matters.

This week brings part two of our hopefully helpful guide for novice or beginners thinking of acquiring their first boat; this week it's aimed at new or second-hand trailerable fibreglass boats.

As with our piece last week aimed at advice for prospective aluminium boat buyers, we have again called on some expert help.

One of Australia's top water ski racing events is looming, and we have a preview of the Southern 80, set to blast along the mighty Murray River on the New South Wales/Victorian border.

In the USA, the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) continues to lobby the EPA over the problems that can be associated with ethanol fuels. This is something boaters everywhere need to keep the proverbial eye on.

Also from the United States, we take a look at a new 98' motor yacht that delivers luxury and performance on a uniquely-designed hybrid hull.

This year's Melbourne International Boat and Lifestyle Show (Feb 5, 6 and 7) now offers ticketing on-line for the first time; it's a show well worthy of a visit.

Plenty more to come, so stick around, we'll be updating continually through the week.

Some interesting new vessels about to be launched and some surprising news from the offshore power boating scene coming your way over the next day or so.
