i>Welcome Sail-World.Com's US newsletter for 4 November 2009
There's plenty of action on and off the water in the America's Cup.
The US Challenger for the 33rd America's Cup, BOR90 was dismasted yesterday off San Diego. We have featured the first reports and images in this issue. She was towed into San Diego at dusk, and the crew left for a debrief.
So far there is no real word on the cause of the dismasting - if we are ever told for competitive reasons.
On Monday, before the dismasting we ran another sequence of images from San Diego taken by the brilliant Gilles Martin-Raget - they are real eye candy, as is the video that we have included of BOR90/USA in full flight on the ocean - just remarkable viewing.
More and more events and teams are taking advantage of the ease of uploading material onto YouTube. Increasingly we will be featuring video from this source on Sail-World, and will try to indicate the presence of these clips with the words '+ video' in the headlines of these stories.
We also have another set of images from Rob Wagner, on the dock in San Diego - these are large close ups of the vitals of BOR90/USA and for anyone interested in sailing technology they are a must see.
Off the water, the legal soap opera, also known as the America's Cup continues with increasingly bizarre storylines. The Hearing scheduled for Wednesday, has now been postponed until Friday (Eastern time) in New York. Three expert Jurors have been appointed, two of who are already in New York, and they will attempt to answer the five questions posed by Justice Shirley Kornreich a week ago. Instead of appearing in the Supreme Court, they will now meet privately on Saturday and report to Justice Kornreich.

Ahead of this session, we have taken a rather long look, at the questions, and have come to some conclusions. There are links to the relevant resources. We've tried to keep it as simple as possible. Hope you can understand the issues. Questions 2-5 will be relatively straightforward. Question 1 (Measurement of LWL with movable ballast) is much more complex.
Meanwhile The Defender, Societe Nautique de Geneve have appealed Kornreich's decisions of last Friday, and asked for an expedited Hearing before the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court.
In breaking news we have the announcement that French sailing icon Franck Cammas and longtime sponsor Groupama will be entering the next two Volvo Ocean Races - marking the return of the French to this premier event. They have also secured the services of a top designer. Full details in this edition.
You can submit your event/regatta/class/boat news by Clicking Here - all copy will be published, please include a photo or three with a side over 1280px wide. There's a new big icon on the home page of www.sail-world.com to make it even easier for you.
Many thanks for your help and input, we're here to help sailing, and help those who wish to help themselves.
