Shows, shows, shows & Race Weeks

Some of you noticed, with last week's story about Lindsay Grenfell taking the helm of OEDA, Lindsay's shot was inadvertently replaced with a shot of Graeme Avers – apologies to both. I cropped the wrong bearded fella. Must do that more often to increase my feedback! Thanks for caring.

This week, hopefully all pics are accurate and among the stories we've posted are a review of the Sydney International Boat Show, which delivered in terms of quality patrons and sales, first glimpses from the Club Marine Perth Boat Show last weekend and a preview of Brisbane Boat Show, 27-30 August.

There's also some information on two smaller boat shows that will no doubt attract the avid boaters in their regions – the first at Southport on the Gold Coast 10 September, run by the Australian Events, organisers of the highly popular Sunshine Coast show at Kawana Waters, and the other the 2009 Club Marine Sail Boat Show, to be held over the weekend of 14-15 November at Sandringham Yacht Club (SYC).

We also have an update on Jessica Watson's preparation prior to her September departure on her 22,000 nautical mile voyage, which if she returns successfully before May next year (her 17th Birthday), will see her crowned the youngest ever to sail solo, unassisted around the world.

Plus, take a look at the incredible penthouse that is on offer at d'Albora Marinas Nelson Bay. Called the Crow's Nest, it would have to be the closest thing to living onboard a luxury vessel and would suit a boatie who needs proximity to Newcastle or even Sydney while keeping one toe in the ocean.

The sailing industry moves north at this time of the year. Events like Meridien Marinas Airlie Beach Race Week, currently happening and Audi Hamilton Island Race Week which starts this Friday and Sunferries Magnetic Island Race Week are significant for the industry and its clients.

There is a host of industry professionals, media, builders, sailmakers, riggers, professional sailors from around the Asia Pacific, deckhardware and electronics people who interact with the owners and their crews at these events. Very much like Trade Shows on the Water.

Naturally our sister site has all the latest news and updates on the action.

Up here on the Gold Coast we have just snapped into summer, anticipating some record breaking hot weather. All signals are that the major markets and consumer sentiment have turned a corner, so with that in mind, and sunny days ahead around the country, the boating industry is well positioned to sell the lifestyle that gives so much pleasure to so many.

Happy cruising!
