Welcome Sail-World.Com's USA's newsletter for 11 August 2009

First signs of a break through in the America's Cup impasse have appeared this morning, following the conclusion of yet another Hearing in the New York Supreme Court.

It seems that, despite a decision yet to be handed down from Justice Shirley Kornreich, that BMW Oracle Racing have confirmed that the modified trimaran they have been sailing off San Diego, known as 'BOR90' is in fact 'USA' the yacht named in the Notice of Challenge lodged in July 2007.

For its part Alinghi have confirmed that they will not attempt to use a measurement process to disqualify the US Challenger, and have agreed to provide clarification required on measurement points.

It would seem that provision of the much sought Customs House Registry document, will occur in a few weeks, once BMW Oracle racing have digested the implications of the Measurement rules announced last week.

We have updated this story, adding extracts from the Court transcripts and other comment.

In foiling Moth Worlds are underway at Cascade Locks, Oregon, with an Australian sailor leading. In this edition we have full reports and images from the racing so far.

We've also got the latest reports on the Rolex Fastnet Race, currently underway in UK. ICAP Leopard the supermaxi has led around Fastnet Rock, however most of the interest is in the 65ft to 80ft class with a number of interesting tussles underway.

Back to the America's Cup. BMW Oracle Racing have released new images this week of a training session with BOR90, now USA, in which she appears to be running at 'race pace'. This means that we can see the rig canted significantly to windward, and also see the foils deployed - and both shot from either astern or abeam - which permits some useful evaluation free of angle distortion.

Certainly, the power developed from this platform is enormous, and is evident from the images - which reveal a wind of only 8-10kts.

Good sailing!
