Whittley in adminstration, Grenfell leads OEDA, signs of recovery
Another glorious week of sunshine and fresh winds on the Gold Coast, but even here in paradise, the talk is all about Hamilton Island. Why, even the major newspapers are waxing lyrical about it being the place to be seen during Audi Race Week, if you can bear to rub shoulders with the world's racing fraternity and most of Australia's winter-blighted celebrities.
TetraMedia will be there, as ever, bringing you the latest racing news and all the background you need to experience all the action from afar. Make sure to visit www.sail-world.com for updates.
In Marine Business News this week, we shed some light on the machinations and direction for OEDA, thanks to the organisation's charismatic and candid Executive Officer, Lindsay Grenfell, appointed to the role in early July. Grenfell, a 16 year veteran of the BIA VIC and many, many years in public service and liaising with governments, seems the ideal candidate for a role that will involve navigating paths to Federal Government, as well as fostering consensus within his own organisation.
Sad news, but a sign of the times, Neville Whittley has announced his company's entering Voluntary Administration, part of what he calls "the Whittley Marine Group's global restructuring process". The first creditor's meeting is to be held on Monday 17 August 2009 after which Administrators will release their full report prior to the second creditors meeting.
Also making news, the Club Marine Perth Boat Show begins tomorrow and the Brisbane Boat Show is just 2 weeks away, both set to be bigger than ever, and if the results from SIBS are anything to go by, the market is turning and boating is back on the agenda. We also present profiles on a couple of the new launches at the Sydney International Boat Show, some international signs of a return to economic health and a new addition to the TetraMedia team, designer extraordinaire, Virgina Veal.
Have a great week and keep your comments and stories coming in.
