America's Cup

Sail-World USA - 1 May 2009

Antigua Sailing Week - Team Origin
Welcome to Sail-World.Com's USA newsletter for 29 April 2009.

More on the America's Cup today, with follow up stories on the Contempt proceedings reports earlier in the week. We have featured a response from Alinghi, together with some legal opinions we have canvassed in another of our Off the Record series. And we feature THAT photo

While the general media are widely disparaging of the current America's Cup situation, and everyone would rather be on the water sailing, the topic dominates the story ratings at Sail-World, and amongst the sailing world there is still significant interest in one of the shop-window events in the sport.

One thing that is looking more and more certain is that the America's Cup will emerge from the current contretemps in a new form and a stronger event - just the same as happened in 1992 after the Big Boat vs The Cat brouhaha in 1988. We will have a look at this situation next week in Sail-World, plus the Constructed in Country rules which will apply for the Deed of Gift Match.

Don't forget if you have news of your class, event , or regatta you can get in touch with Sail-World's readership of 125,000 unique viewers per month. Around 10,000 people per day read our website. This facility is yours - for free. We're delighted if you use use it, because we want to promote US sailing and US sailors. And yes, we're more than happy to give your sponsors a mention, because without them a lot of what does take place, wouldn't.

America's Cup - Off the Record - 30 April: Alinghi on thin ice
Richard Gladwell, Sail-World.Com,
