High temps, high hopes, rising consumer sentiment

Another week of sky-high temperatures – hope wherever you are, you're lapping it up!

On the Gold Coast, we're already preparing for the 21st anniversary of our highlight calendar event, Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show. Kudos to all those involved and those exhibiting.

This week, we look to bleak old Blighty for inspiration. The London Boat Show has turned in stronger than anticipated visitor figures and exhibitors report slow, but steady sales so far.

Reeling from 40+ temps, Melbourne is readying itself for MIBLS – the 2009 Melbourne International Boat and Lifestyle Show, which is hosting a number of Australian launches as well as expecting crowds of around 90,000 from Victoria, SA and WA as well.

Mixed news this week – from strong performers, rising consumer sentiment and marine-led growth in the Mackay-Whitsundays region, to the demise of Queensland based Euroyachts. The company has been operating since 1996 importing brands including Jeanneau, Sanlorezo and Viking Yachts. Watch this space for more from receivers, Korda Mentha who confirmed Euroyachts was put into receivership on the 14th January, 2009.

Marine Qld is calling for boat builders and other manufacturers to get together to discuss the potential for a Manufacturers Division, similar to that in NSW. Charles Dickson is inviting all interested people to join him for a meeting 2 February at Southport Surf Life Saving Club, from 6pm.

Finally, an update on the perennial magazine circulation claims vs online hard facts. Needless to say, we in the online world are justifiably proud and protective of our patch and urge advertisers and marketing consultants to analyse the fundamentals before falling for the ‘buy mag, get online free' offers out there. You're paying waaaay too much for space and getting about $2 value for the online thrown in free, in some cases.

If you're keen for more facts, publisher Rob Kothe has the independently measured figures for the TetraMedia sites.

Have a great week!
