Riviera credit coup, EBSI success, new boat blood

Sophie (3 months) and Alex Bone (20 months) are my reasons to celebrate at this time of year!  .
Now I'm really excited! Can't get enough of the fruit mince pies and white Christmas – why don't they make these all year round? Can't wait for the stupor that kicks in after a banquet of ham, turkey, pork, chicken, prawns and as many of God's creatures as we're served up. And how about that brandy custard!? The only dilemna then is whether to crash out on the lounge watching TV or by the pool getting some Vitamin D.

But spare a thought for those who expect nothing over the festive season. Those who have been retrenched or for whom a bitter year has left them with little to celebrate. We have banned presents this year and instead, have dropped off everything from clothes and toys (unslobbered on), through to books, school supplies and even pet food in the local shopping centre charity collections.

While we have all taken a few hits to the belt this year, if you sit down and count your blessings, as my granny used to urge, it will take longer than you think. You'll find we're all lucky to be living in such a bountiful society in one of the best countries in the world!

Get out on the water over the holidays, write some cards or emails to people you've lost contact with – it's easy now to just Google them! Relax, reflect and start the New Year afresh. Resolutions are great as a guide, in business and life. Most of all, remember 'the reason for the season' and give thanks.

Anyhow, enough philosophy. Enjoy this week's batch of stories and visit our sites over the break. We're first with the news, features and products gathered from all over the globe.
