MBN Editorial

The lead up to Christmas is always exciting/stressful/chaotic – but this year in our family, we have decided to stay home, limit the gifts and the expense, eat our fill at a hotel restaurant feast on Christmas day and enjoy the simple things that money can't buy – family, friends and time relaxing in the pool, in front of the box or catching up on some sleep.

Whatever your plans, this is the ideal time of year to consider your business goals and strategies for 2009. Fortunately, financial pundits anticipate the ‘recession' taking an ‘upward turn' around May next year, so that's a beacon on the horizon.

For many, cutting the marketing and PR budgets is part of general reduction of overheads, but our experts say that's precisely what your competitors hope you'll do. As food for thought, take a look at the 'PR or Perish'-themed piece this week.

Also this issue we look at shows including PIMEX, Dubai, the recent Emirates show and, in the wake of the recent terror attacks in Mumbai, we'll be updating you on plans for the 2009 Mumbai Boat Show. We also have full coverage of the Kings Cup in Phuket, where our Sail-World team is on location for the racing and festivities.

There are plenty of product launches, local news, views and information, so please visit as often as you have a chance for the latest in marine business.

As I tuck in to a slice of fruit cake and anticipate white Christmas for lunch, my advice is get your shopping done early, enjoy the sights, savour the aromas of the food halls, the sticky puddings and salty hams and enjoy the last few weeks before the end of what has been an eventful year.
