Today, online is really the media space to occupy.
As if we need more evidence, Rupert Murdoch was in Sydney last week once more talking realistically about the Web and urging Australian business to revive the pioneering spirit and investment in innovation for which we were once renowned.
A vocal advocate of compelling, quality online news journalism, and a pioneer of Internet media in the mid-90s, Murdoch's mantra is 'up to date information, where, how and what consumers are interested in'.
He has described the shift to the Internet as 'a revolution in the way people are accessing news'.
'They don't want to rely on the morning paper for their up-to-date information. They don't want to rely on a God-like figure from above to tell them what's important. And to carry the religion analogy a bit further, they certainly don't want news presented as gospel.'
Murdoch is investing billions in making his online publications stand-alone entities from his coterie of print titles. This is the way of the future, 'to make a website a consumer's homepage. Just as people traditionally started their day with coffee and the newspaper, in the future, our hope should be that for those who start their day online, it will be with coffee and our website'.
And when it gets to their own (marine) business news they certainly dont want weekly bulletins which are nothing more than a thin teasers for a print publication, while serious players update 24x7 (like TetraMedia), which runs as many as 60 new articles each day across MarineBusinessNews.com Sail-World.com and Powerboat-world.com
Last week one of our new advertisers said 'We realised consumers had moved online and we did a close analysis of the online marine media before making an advertising committment to TetraMedia. We realised that you have a serious committment to breaking news and that has been your key to success. The new online players we looked at lacked substance and lack traffic.'
This week, and each and every day, MarineBusinessNews brings you the latest news from around the Asia Pacific and the word and a fully-edited selection of product launches.
Hope you agree, worth a daily visit while you enjoy your morning coffee, a la Rupert!
