Guy Nowell, Sail-World Asia,
After this year's performance, the RHKYC's China Coast Regatta can seriously and legitimately lay claim to being the Best Big Boat Regatta in Asia. We are not saying the biggest, or the longest, or the most picturesque – PR spin can give any event a superlative of some sort – but quite simply the best inshore racing series in the region. Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy- China Coast, day 2
Guy Nowell, Sail-World Asia,
You can please some of the people all of the time, but there's never a chance of pleasing an entire fleet of sailors – not even sometimes. Many sailors think that 25 kts of breeze, air temperature of 28 deg C and water at 22 deg makes for something like idyllic racing. But not everyone.... [more]

SLAM DUNK at China Coast Regatta
Guy Nowell, Sail-World Asia,
We've all heard it before – 'there's a small job needs doing – who's the youngest?' Well, we didn't actually check Mark Bartlett's birthday, but we are giving him today's prize for copping the most unpopular job on the boat. Or maybe the fleet. There was a bit of fixing to do on Highland Fling in between races, and Becks drew the short straw. One moment you're up there flying, and the next... What... [more]

It's all about looking good at the China Coast 08
Guy Nowell, Sail-World Asia,
There was a seriously 'quality' fleet out there today for the opening races of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club's flagship event, the Total Lubmarine China Coast Regatta. Just six boats contributed 325' LOA to the IRC Div A, from Frank Pong's evergreen and much-optimised RP75 Jelik down to Chris Meads' impossibly shiny Corby 43, Full Metal Jacket. And in between there two TP 52s (Highland Fling and... [more]
