Over the past month we have covered most of the regions in Asia-Pacific, including Australia, New Zealand, China and Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, India and the Middle East. Down the page you will find the key stories of last week and the past month.

Stories has been as diverse as corporate profiles on Navico, Raymarine, Garmin, Burke Marine, E Marine and Aqualuma, product reviews, business opportunities locally and internationally, insight from seminars, new regulations, industry and government initiatives, international research and trends, AIMEX achievements and updates on exporting, previews of Boat Shows from Miami to Mandurah, AMIF and SYAB Award winners – and much more.

This week we bring you a host of sales results and feedback from SCIBS, a preview of SIBS and news of a plethora of boat shows in the Arabian Gulf; two slated for the wealthiest emirate in the region Abu Dhabi, where the net wealth is around $17m per person and interest in recreational boating is creating enormous demand.

There are also plenty of opportunities for Asia Pacific businesses interested in exploring the options in Korea, showcasing products and services at the inaugural Korea Boat Show, 10 to 15 June in the Gyeonggi Province, home to Samsung and LG Electronics.

South Korea is one of the most affluent countries in Asia and boating is rising in popularity, along with skiing and golf! The catchment area for the Show is 11 million people and Boat Show organisers anticipate around 40,000 visitors to the four day event, which coincides with the Korea Match Cup yachting tour event.

The show has already signed up 231 exhibitors for the event including 121 overseas. Visit, or for more information.

Also this week, a look at a Strategic Marine, a WA ship building company that is expanding to Vietnam and Mexico. The company has come a long way from back yard boat builders in 1984 to become one of the leading manufacturers of high speed aluminium ships in Australia and to date has designed and built more than 322 vessels with an order book in the vicinity of US$250m.

In the realm of marketing the boating lifestyle to the broader community, the Grow Boating initiative has secured for its members an excellent marketing opportunity through Fairfax's Sunday Age – an advertising rate that is 60% off the regular rate for its consumer feature, 'Discover Boating'. This will appear in the paper 29 June, reaching more than 722,000 readers.

We will be adding to the Marine Business News site every day, with snippets, features and news items that will inevitably impact on your business.

This week we introduce Mark O'Brien the New Zealand marine cartoonist who brought the Monsta's to the America's Cup. Mark will be a regular contributor to Marine Business News.

Please keep in touch with any news or product info you may have. We want to reflect the industry, trends and innovations that assist you in your business.
