Major Events


Here's a selection of news from around the world - including some remarkable 'haze' in Hong Kong harbour which almost totally obscured the racing on the first day of the RHKYC Long Beach Autumn Regatta.

The Clippers are off on another gripping trip round the globe, and the next VOR is going to finish in St Petersburg.

Malaysia is getting ready for the SEA (South East Asian) Games - if there are any signs of life from other competitors please let us know!

RHKYC Long Beach Autumn Regatta 2007 - day 2
With the first race of the day lasting just over an hour, the second race was designed to allow a quick finish before the forecast drop in wind stranded the boats in the Eastern approaches once again. This proved to be a popular choice with the sailors.... [more]

St Petersburg is finish port for next Volvo Race

The Russian port city of St Petersburg is to be the finish port for the 2008 - 09 Volvo Ocean Race - this will be a first in the race’s 34-year history. Hey Mister, can we have our ball back?

The gear was taken when Chinese police officers raided the team's flat, which is near a Chinese Navy submarine training base in the northern city of Qingdao. They removed two 5ft tall weather stations, worth GBP 8,000, from the apartment and sent them for analysis. The team is in China preparing for next year's Olympics and had been using the equipment to download data on temperatures and wave and wind directions.... [more]

Malaysian Keelboat Qualifiers for SEA Games 2007

Challengers share £44 million from America's Cup
AC Management, organiser of the 32nd America's Cup held in Valencia, today reported that it had made a profit of 66.5 million euros (£44 million) from a total revenue of 240 million euros (£160 million) and would be distributing 90% of this to the participating teams... [more]

Golding honoured for Southern Ocean rescue
