We are at the Royal Pines Resort on the Queensland Gold Coast as a guest, along with other media, of Mercury Marine and that company’s annual Expo.
Here we are learning of the company’s plans for ’08 and are seeing a preview of new products and new boats for the coming ‘07/’08 summer. Powerboat-World readers will be the first to learn the hard news from Mercury Marine.
Some news will have high performance ‘freaks’ drooling; Mark Chapman, CEO of the Chapman Marine Group and a genuine ‘high priest of high performance’ has been appointed the Australian distributor for Cigarette Racing Team, Inc.
Powerboat-World spent last weekend on the Moreton Bay foreshores for the opening round of the Offshore Superboat Championships. You’ll read here that Bill Barry-Cotter’s boat dominated Class I with a convincing win, but the ‘main man’ was not working the throttles, it was son Tom.
Speaking of Mr Barry-Cotter, our team was in Port Hinchinbrook yesterday and managed to have a close up look at his latest creation, the $2 million battlewagon, the Maritimo 550, now fully kitted and in this edition of Powerboat-World we’re delighted to reveal the first photos of this magnificent vessel.
We’ve also digested an array of statistics gathered by the Boating Industry Association of NSW, organiser of the Sydney International Boat Show. I think you’ll find them interesting and thought provoking.
All you need to do to keep with all that’s happening on the Australian boating scene is stick with Powerboat-World.com
