Flying Dutchman Yachts, known for their youth, club operations, lifestyle and custom built boats from China using Dutch technology & craftsmanship and Swiss design, have recently launched the FD Future, aimed at both Youth Sailing and Sailing Clubs.

We caught up with Krijn van den Brink, owner of FD Yachts about the latest addition to their fleet.

Krijn, the FD Future is the latest dinghy designed and built by your team. Who is the FD Future designed for?

The FD Future is designed for multiple functions, youth, beginner sailor and sailing training and for one design domestic and international competition. It also has potential as one design class for National and International competition which we'd love to see.

What size is it and what's it made from?

The boat is made out of 3 layers PE sandwich, and it's 3.6m in length.

Is it suitable for beginners?

Yes the FD Future is very suitable for beginners, the hull is stable and the sail plan is not over powered. In addition, the main sail can be reefed in heavier winds.

Is it single or double handed?

The FD future can be use as single and double handed, ideal for learning.

Tell us about the design of the boat, and how to rig

The FD Future is a modern hull with a straight bow, she has a large cockpit which is easy to enter from the transom. Below the water line the FD Future has a modern stable hull with a generous bow area for easy planing performance.

The FD Future is similar to our other boats in that it's really easy to rig. The two-part round mast is inserted into the mast support, and it has a sleeve packed mainsail.

What feature are you most proud of?

The FD Future is a very flexible boat with the option for single or double handed sailing, for beginners and more advanced sailors, with rigging designed for a balanced sailing performance while using the jib. You can use an asymmetric spinnaker, while not risking overpowering it for the beginner sailor.

It also has a deep and safe cockpit with wide sitting areas and front deck which guarantees sailing efficiency and comfort. With the light weight the boat is very easy to handle on land and can also be transported on the car roof. The Riggings' installation on boat is hassle free which made it very efficient for club operations.
