The official press conference held to announce the 61st edition of the Genoa International Boat Show was streamed live to the press and spectators worldwide.

Taking part in the conference were Giovanni Toti, President of the Liguria Region, Mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci and President of the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority Paolo Emilio Signorini, who were welcomed to the Italian Marine Industry Association's headquarters in Genoa by the President of both the Association and the organising company I Saloni Nautici, Saverio Cecchi, alongside Chief Executive Officer of I Saloni Nautici Carla Demaria, General Director of the Association Marina Stella and the Commercial Director of I Saloni Nautici Alessandro Campagna.

The 61st Genoa International Boat Show is set to mirror a market for which current predictions, as presented by the Italian Marine Industry Association's Market Analysis Department, confirm nothing but positive and sustained growth. The fact that this edition is already sold out in terms of national and international exhibitors is in part due to the authority and credibility achieved by the event's organisers following the tremendous success of the Boat Show's 60th edition last year, the only industry event in Europe to take place in person and in full compliance with the highest standards of health and safety, during the year of the pandemic.

Saverio Cecchi, President of the Italian Marine Industry Association and of I Saloni Nautici: "More than ever before, I feel the need to express just how much I believe in teamwork: this is something that lives deep in my DNA as both a sportsman and a professional, a principal around which I have always structured my own work. The Association's reunification was the first step towards our success, which, along with a consolidated relationship with our institutional counterparts, allows us to look forward to the 61st Genoa International Boat Show and to future editions with the knowledge that our work will benefit not just Genoa, but the country as a whole."

The layout of this year's 61st Genoa International Boat Show will mirror that of the more recent editions following the continued success of a multi-specialised format, which will spread across over 200,000 square metres on land and sea, 85% of which is entirely outdoors, and which will be prepared to host over 1,000 boats. Brands on display this year will also be close to 1,000. Confirmed exhibitors will include leading shipyards on both the national and global stage who took part in last year's edition, featuring the highly anticipated return of numerous household names. Furthermore, this year exhibitors will be greeted by a profoundly different layout, transformed by the ongoing development of a brand new Levante waterfront, a project that began in October 2020 and which will reach completion in 2023, creating 200 new berths and a completely redeveloped indoor sporting arena.

The waterfront redevelopment project, designed and donated to the Genoa Municipality, the Liguria Region and the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority by renowned architect Renzo Piano, will see zero-emission buildings, a vast park of hallmark Mediterranean trees and a masterplan of promenades and docking areas, transporting the Genoa Boat Show's waterfront to become a world-class location for a world-class event. The effects of such a revolutionary reimagining of one of Europe's yachting capitals can already be seen starting with the immediate benefit of removing the promenade wall between piers C and E, which has redefined the heart of the Genoa Boat Show's layout, allowing for a single pier without interrupting the flow between Pavilion B and the new dock. The real winner of this transformation is surface area which has gained 14% more space. Water surface has also increased by 19% thanks to a brand new docking area for boats measuring up to 15 metres, combined with the implementation of equally new piers across the other docks.

Alessandro Campagna, Commercial Director of I Saloni Nautici: "The 61st Genoa International Boat Show will only gain ground, in fact, with the current redevelopment for the brand new waterfront, we will gain a docking area at the centre of the Boat Show, which will allow for new spaces and paths for visitors, with more room to breathe. On land there will be 14% more floor space while the new dock will provide 19% more water surface. We will be using 200 thousand square metres, 85% of which will be completely outdoors, to house over 1,000 boats representing almost 1,000 brands."

The 61st edition of the Genoa International Boat Show will benefit from the experience of last year's edition with the approval of the Show's health and safety protocols on behalf of Italy's National Technical Scientific Committee, which allowed the Show's 60th edition to take place in person and in full compliance with all health and safety provisions and which will be integrated with the latest guidelines with regards to the Green Pass and access to trade fair events.

Ticket sales for the Boat Show began over the course of the past few days via the official website salonenautico.com, where visitors will be able to book a series of services in addition to their visit, including parking

Institutional partners of the 61st Genoa International Boat Show are the Italian Ministry for Economic Development, the Liguria Region, the Genoa Municipality and the Genoa Chamber of Commerce.

This year there will also be a space tailored to the display of the traditional Mediterranean boats known as gozzi, a piece of history when it comes to Liguria and Campania. Visitors will be able to discover the latest creations by Giorgio Mussini, Apreamare, Sciallino, Cantiere Patrone Moreno, Gozzi Mimì and Nautica Esposito who continue to uphold the traditional woods and boat builders of old. A new area in the Boating Discovery section will be dedicated exclusively to fishing boats, featuring the participation of 3B Craft, Axopar, BostonWhaler, Pursuit and Nuova Tuccoli, among others.

As for inboard engines, the 61st Genoa International Boat Show will see the return of industry-leading names such as Cummins, Lombardini, Volvo Penta, Man, Nanni, Yanmar Marine, alongside inboard engine and generator experts including Mase e SAIM.

Outboards, along with RIBs, will take centre stage across the ground floor of Pavilion B: all brands will be back again this year, joined by brand new designs from Selva to Honda, from Mercury to Yamaha to Suzuki. They will be displaying alongside the very best the global RIB industry has to offer, with models by Zar, Capelli, BWA, Ranieri International, Marlin Boats, Nuova Jolly, Joker, Master, Lomac, MV Marin and Mar.co. Osculati, Besenzoni, Quick, Veleria San Giorgio, Foresti e Suardi, F.lli Razeto e Casareto, Uflex e Ultraflex, Gianneschi, Garmin, Navico, Furuno, Raymarine and Boero make up only a portion of what this year's edition has to offer.

Sea trials, one of the Genoa International Boat Show's hallmark specialities, will still be possible this year thanks to the new layout and will be carried out throughout the Show's duration each day. Trials must be booked in advance.

Conferences and events

The Genoa International Boat Show will include the traditional FORUM for institutional events among others, in collaboration with Confindustria Nautica, providing industry related conferences and the Forum Innovation technical seminars. The first of these will be the Boating Economic Forecast, which will take place on the opening day and will present the latest edition of the market analysis publication Nautica in Cifre - Boating in Figures and will feature a panel conference dedicated to the yachting industry's current export situation and the incoming nautical tourism. Innovation and sustainability will once again take centre stage this year with seminars devoted to cutting-edge technology and technical workshops.

This year's Boat Show will also see the second edition of the "Design Innovation Award", established in 2020 by the Italian Marine Industry Association and the company I Saloni Nautici, aimed at supporting and encouraging the highest standards of innovation and excellence on behalf of exhibitors and their most recent products. The winners of each of the Award's nine categories, as determined by an international jury composed of design experts, exponents of the worlds of academics and production and industry journalists, will take place during the first few days of the 61st Genoa International Boat Show. The terms and participation forms are available on the official website salonenautico.com, in the dedicated section.

The Breitling Theatre, located in the Sailing area will host events, presentations and panels featuring guests and champions from the world of sailing. Some of the most anticipated of whom will be the Italian athletes who will have taken part in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the Luna Rossa PRADA Pirelli team, winner of the Prada Cup presented by PRADA and finalist in the 36th edition of the America's Cup, which took place earlier this year in Auckland, New Zealand. Guests will also include Giancarlo Pedote, the Italian sailor who finished the 2020 edition of the Vendee Globe, a race around the world without any form of assistance or stops, in eighth place, the greatest result for an Italian competitor to date.

The opening day for the 61st Genoa International Boat Show, on 16th September, will also mark the start of the RoundItaly Regatta, the longest offshore non-stop race on the Mediterranean: 1,130 miles to sail, which will define a new record between Genoa and Trieste, bringing the two cities closer together than ever before.

The regatta is organised by the Italian Yacht Club, the Sailing Club of Barcola and Grignano, the Barcolana, in partnership with the Italian Marine Industry Association, the Genoa International Boat Show and the Italian Sailing Federation. In 2020 the regatta had been organised exclusively via a virtual racing platform and saw an enormous turnout. Following its success, this year the e-sailing formula will take place in parallel with the physical, hands-on version of the regatta.

While Saturday 18th September is when the Millevele regatta will take place, Genoa's sailing event organised by the Italian Yacht Club and which gains more and more participants every year, now a traditional and integral part of the Genoa International Boat Show.
