RYA Scotland guidance for boating activity in Scotland has been updated for Phase 2 of the Scottish Government route map for moving out of lockdown.

As well as guidance for general activity there is some more detail of measures for Clubs and Training Centres available here.

Reflecting on the changes for Phase 2 James Allan CEO at RYA Scotland said,

"I am are pleased that those who have been shielding can now return to the water and it is now possible for a greater number of households to meet. This makes boating feel a bit more sociable and inclusive even if there are still many who cannot yet get to their boats in Scotland with the ongoing restrictions on travel."

"It is also good to see that some informal competition can also now take place. This will undoubtedly suit the racers out there and it will be interesting to see who has been sharpening their tactics in the rounds of eSailing recently."

"We did specifically ask for consideration to be given to allowing overnight on board at anchor or on a mooring, which is not your own, and it is disappointing that despite providing considerable evidence that this would be a safe and limited extension for boating activity, we have been advised that overnight aboard is not permitted in Phase 2. Anchoring briefly for a break during the day continues to be acceptable."

"While this is disappointing, we do still have long days to enjoy afloat and I thank those who can get afloat for continuing to observe the guidance issued."

"From the start of the pandemic we have been working to represent the interests of the boating community and will continue to do so. Phase 2 wasn't expected to bring much in the way of change and it has turned out to be as expected. For me, we don't have long to wait until Phase 3 and we do expect some considerable movement in the thinking as we get to that point which I hope will justify the patience the entire boating community has demonstrated with the whole situation."

Look over the guidance carefully before you consider heading afloat and remember to Stay Safe, Protect others and Save lives.
