Six teams turned out on Sunday 6th October for the President's Cup, the Royal Thames Yacht Club's invitational event for the young member and academy teams of other yacht clubs.

The Thames welcomed teams from the Royal Yacht Squadron, Royal London Yacht Club, Sea View Yacht Club, the British Keelboat Academy, and London Corinthian Sailing Club to Queen Mary Reservoir for a day of short course fleet racing in the J80s.

The conditions on the day were excellent with the wind between 15 and 25 knots from the Northwest, challenging the teams with strong puffs and big shifts up the beat.

The racing was very tight and after nine races there was very little to separate the teams from two down to six. However, one team stood out throughout the day taking eight first places and a second with the Royal Thames team of Tom Quigley, Will Reid and Ed Lush walking away as victors.

In second was Sea View Yacht Club skippered by Hugo Mills who is also a Thames member. In third and the only other team on the day to take a race win was the Royal Yacht Squadron skippered by Tom Preston.

A special thank you goes to Race Officer Peter Schroeder who made the long trip from Bath to officiate.

The event has been strongly supported for a number of years, and the same was true this year. It is hoped the event will continue to attract strong teams from other yacht clubs in 2020 and beyond.

Results:

1. Royal Thames Yacht Club - 10 points
2. Sea View Yacht Club - 26 points
3. Royal Yacht Squadron - 32 points
4. London Corinthian Sailing Club - 37 points
5. British Keelboat Academy - 38 points
6. Royal London Yacht Club - 46 points
