Laser Open at Notts County Sailing Club

by David Eberlin 2 Jul 2018 00:27 PDT 1 July 2018

Notts County Sailing Club's Laser open attracted a large turnout with 38 competitors in the sunshine and light to moderate winds, apart from being a little shifty when it swung to come over the hill it was a great day's sailing.

The first race got under way at 11am with race Officer James Logan setting a long beat and reach and run to the leeward mark off the clubhouse, giving spectators a good view. There was a break for lunch then two back to back races.

Entries were from nine clubs from all over the Midlands, though the home club contingent were out in force.

The three races saw different winners and so it was constancy that counted, and Stuanton Harold's Craig and Paul Williamson showed how it should be done with a first and second to count. Richard Mason from Notts County was third in every race to giving him third overall. He was followed by Simon Stonehouse from Rutland and Joe Scurrah from Carsington.

The racing finished with prize giving in the clubhouse, and some tired, possibly slightly red but happy competitors.
