Scottish and Northern Squib Championships at Royal Tay Yacht Club

by Gordon Crosby, RTYC Squib Captain 18 Jun 2014 02:45 PDT 14-15 June 2014

Light to moderate winds prevailed for the 2 days of competition. Indeed, on the Sunday morning, making the wing mark with very little wind and a 3 knot tide was a bit of a challenge. A loud yell could be heard from the first boat round (Bob Wilson & Andrew Benson, 577, Zulu) from right across the river as they knew they would go on to win the race. This was race three out of four (one discard allowed).

Race winners were Alistair Stewart & G Kidd, 579, Wavelength; Alan & Brenda Massie, 769, Powder Blue; and Zulu. So three different winners for the first three races.

The championship was decided on the last beat of the last race, with the Massies just squeezing in past Boyd Baird & Keith Furness (505, Tefnut) on the last tack, to win. So Alan and Brenda Massie are Scottish Champs with 4 points. Bob Wilson & Andrew Benson were runners up and Boyd Baird with Keith Furness were third. And everyone had fun!
