Grant Piggott and Simon Farren won the Weston Catamaran Open in their Nacra Infusion over the weekend of 19/20 October. Second were Simon Northrop and Ollie Egan, also in an Infusion, and third came William Sunnucks and Freddie White with a new mast on an Edge.
The event also doubled as the Nacra National Championship, and third place for this went to David White sailing with Charles Willett. The Nacras continue to feature at the top of the results, despite increasing competition from Phantoms, Edges and Cirrus Rs. A new and updated Capricorn is expected to make its debut next year in Australia.
Moderate winds on the Saturday saw excellent racing on a short course across Southampton water. Up to six laps were needed to make a 40 minute race and the crews were exhausted from hoisting the kites and boards.
On Sunday the wind increased with dark bands of cloud and torrential rain. There were many capsizes but the F18s enjoyed boisterous racing.
Many thanks to race officer Stuart Offer and Weston sailing club for running an excellent event, with a good atmosphere and many prizes for all levels.
