Host of Olympic sailors open RYA Volvo Dinghy Show 2012

by Emma Slater, RYA 3 Mar 2012 06:18 PST 3-4 March 2012

Team GB 470 sailors Saskia Clark and Hannah Mills were joined by 1996 Paralympic Gold medallist Andy Cassell and 1988 gold medallist Mike McIntryre to officially open the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show 2012.

In front of a packed house Mike and Andy shared stories of their Olympic successes, whilst Hannah and Saskia commented on their preparations for the upcoming Olympic Games this summer, before sounding the starters hooter and cutting the red, white and blue ribbon to mark the show open.

Running over the weekend of 3 – 4 March at Alexandra Palace, London, the show is an absolute must for any dinghy enthusiast or even if you want to find out more about getting started.

“We have over 200 exhibitors filling the halls with everything from boats, kit and gear and books to expert advice from clubs and class associations all under one roof” explained RYA show manager Helen Waterhouse.

There’s plenty to see and hear all weekend on the Volvo Main Stage and at the interactive coaching sessions, where some of the very best dinghy sailors and experts will be sharing their top tips and giving advice. There are loads of fun activities for younger visitors including the always popular Treasure Hunt and sailing simulator, as well as a whole host of competitions to take part in with great prizes to be won.

So if you have a passion for dinghy sailing or just want to find out more then head down to Alexandra Palace and enjoy the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show 2012, in association with Yachts & Yachting and Suzuki.

Tickets are available on the door and cost just £13.00 for adults and £6.50 for children on Saturday and children go free on Sunday, or you can book online at www.dinghyshow.org.uk.

All visitors to the show receive a FREE show guide.
