Sunsail are pleased to partner with the Royal Southern Yacht Club to celebrate their 175th Anniversary and announce the launch of the Biscay 2012 Race with yachtswomen Sam Davies announced as the Biscay 2012 race ambassador.

Sam Davies commented; “I am honoured to be the race ambassador for the Biscay 2012. Any sailing initiative that helps encourage a wider audience to participate in competitive offshore racing has to be a good thing”.

The Biscay 2012 Race will take place from 16-29September 2012 with competitors racing from Hamble, UK to Brest, France and back to Hamble. Crews will race the new fleet of Sunsail F40s, the largest identically matched fleet in the world, and complete over 950 nautical miles. The race is divided into three legs allowing for challenging and competitive racing.

Simon Conder; Sunsail UK Head of Marketing said; “This is a great partnership for Sunsail, the Royal Southern Yacht Club is a prestigious sailing club and the new fleet of F40s are the perfect boats for this challenging and exciting race. The Biscay 2012 is a great addition to the Sunsail Racing Events Calendar and will challenge crews, whilst allowing fantastic stop-over locations.”

Leg one, from Hamble to La Rochelle, competitors will navigate their way down The Solent towards the Needles and cross the challenging waters of the Bay of Biscay towards the charming, fortified port of La Rochelle. Leg two, from La Rochelle to Brest, France crews will navigate up the stunning west coast of France to arrive in the historic port of Brest. Leg three, from Brest to Hamble will see competitors sail past Bembridge Ledge off the east coast of the Isle of Wight and back across The Solent to Hamble for the prize giving.

Competitors for Biscay 2012 are able to build their racing miles in the F40s in the Sunsail Racing Programme in the Canary Islands this winter and in the UK next year. The four Regattas in the Royal Southern Yacht Club’s 2012 summer racing programme will also count towards crew qualification for the Biscay 2012 race.
