One vital ingredient was missing at the 2007 Spinnaker Club Firefly weekend on the 13th and 14th October. The wind refused to turn up causing the abandonment of both the planned Twisted Tube Random Pairs team racing (Saturday) and the Spinnaker Firefly Open meeting (Sunday).
With no sailing possible competitors and race officials were forced to drink tea, read the paper and invent increasingly silly games to amuse themselves prior to leaving early on both days to watch the rugby. Spinnaker proved excellent hosts for this non sailing event and even returned everyone’s entry fees in full, an example other clubs might wish to follow in similar circumstances!
The Firefly class are hoping for better weather at the remaining events of the 2007 season; Wembley Open (21st October), the Foot team racing (27th/28th October), and the final event of the year, the Firefly Class Inland Championships at Oxford SC (10th/11th November).
