The first stage of Leg 9 of the Volvo Ocean race from Lorient to The Hague was largely won or lost around the Exclusion Zone set in the English Channel.
The fleet had the option to pass up the English Coastal side, or stay on the French side.
Step on board the competitors and hear their thoughts as to which side they were going to take and why - and how it worked out for them.
Team Alvimedica got it right, and got the break to lead into The Hague by 106 minutes which will come into play when they set off at 1000UTC on Saturday to sail the second stage.
