Zhik 29er Nationals - How close can the top three get?
|
The Zhik 29er Nationals 2012 featured a razor-sharp finish with Charlie Wyatt and Lewis Brake AUS 20 taking the overall crown by .5 while Tom Siganto and Joel Turner AUS 1929 and Kiwis Markus Somerville and Jack Simpson NZL119 completed the top-three finishers. The lighter winds have not favoured early regatta leaders Tom Siganto and Joel Turner AUS 1929 as they drop to third place but just .5 behind Kiwis Markus Somerville and Jack Simpson NZL119 who with a bullet in the final race of the day moved up to second. Charlie Wyatt and Lewis Brake AUS 20 are holding on to first by .5 but with two scores today outside the top ten a third in the final race enabled them to hold on to the narrowest of leads. Back up with finishes at the top of the fleet Tess Lloyd and Eliza Solly AUS 23 scored a bullet, a second and a third today to move up the leader board, however in the final race they got stuck on the pin leading to a 19 place, but Lloyd has not be paying a great deal of attention to the results instead following the advice of her hero Nathan Outteridge and 'having fun on the water'. With the breeze sitting on 10 knots and 190 degrees for most of the day the wind picked up to 15 knots for the final race of the day. Crews are all looking forward to the rest day tomorrow with the final day of racing scheduled for Wednesday morning after which many of the crews will be heading across to Tasmania for the OAMPS Australian Youth Championship.
