What a fleet! That’s all you can say when you take more than a cursory glance down the entrants list for the 49er and FX National Championships being staged on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. Alex McKinnon was there to capture the action.

There are many an Olympic Medallist, World Champion and offspring of notable sailors out racing in the exciting 49er and 49er FX (Female) Olympic Classes.

There is Iain Jensen of London Gold fame with Nathan Outteridge in the 49er, sailing with Will Phillips. They have three bullets from three guns, so it is little wonder Will was so full of smiles when they came off the water. James Sly is sailing with Will’s brother, Sam and Peter Gilmour’s son, David is on the water with Nicholas Brownie and they are currently in second place. Also there are Sail Melbourne winners, Jasper ‘Fang’ Warren and Luke Parkinson, who hold third place.

In the closely watched FX fleet you have 2012 Silver Medallist (Match Racing), Olivia Price, sailing with Alanna Clancy and 2008 Gold Gold Medallist (470), Tessa Parkinson sailing with Kate Lathouras. The latter lead with two wins and a second place so far, whilst the former is in third place. Holding second place, one point behind the leaders are Nathan’s sister, Haylee and crew, Alison Dale.

Two entries from Singapore include Cecilia Low and 2011 Optimist World Champion, Kimberly Lim.
