Youth Sailing Grand Prix competitors seek success on and off the water

With the 2013 Queensland Youth Week taking place in Brisbane competitors in the Youth Sailing Grand Prix will be back in action next week.

Queensland Youth Week runs from July 2 to 6 with more than 200 crews making the trip to the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron for the 2013 event.

Coinciding with this year’s event organisers of the Youth Sailing Grand Prix are running a Facebook competition with one youth sailor to win a GoPro HERO3 camera with thanks to the Australian Maritime College.

To go into the running to win the GoPro camera entrants just need to post a photo of themselves sailing to the Youth Sailing Grand Prix Facebook Page. The photo with the most number of combined likes, shares and comments at 12pm on Saturday 6 July will win.

The competition is open to all Australian youth sailors who have, or will, compete in a Youth Sailing Grand Prix event this year. Registration for the Youth Sailing Grand Prix is easy and free, just click here and fill in your details and then post your photo to Facebook.

The Youth Sailing Grand Prix is open to sailors under the age of 19 and encompasses a number of events across the country with the Adelaide International Regatta, Victorian State Youth Championships and Mandurah Easter Regatta have already been held this year. Queensland Youth Week, the NSW State Youth Championship, the Wildcat Regatta, Victorian Catamaran Championships, Hobart Showdown Regatta, Sail Melbourne, Sail Sydney, the various class nationals and the 2014 OAMPS Insurance Brokers Australian Youth Championships are still to be held.

Competitors in the Laser 4.7, Laser Radial, Hobie 16, 29er, 420 and Bic Techno classes are all eligible to win the Youth Sailing Grand Prix, with prizes between $500 and $2,000 for the winners, to be used as a contribution to sailing campaign costs.
