Women candidates polled the highest in the election for Vice-President at the just concluded World Sailing General Assembly.

There were fifteen candidates for seven positions on the former Executive Committee now the Board of World Sailing. In the full voting results just released by World Sailing, female candidates took three of the top four positions.

All three were new candidates to the role.

Top polling male candidate was W.Scott Perry (URU) who is also the Treasurer of World Sailing. Perry, Gary Jobson (USA) and Li Quanhai (CHN) were the returning Vice-Presidents to be elected. A fourth, Chris Atkins (GBR) polled 13th out of the 15 candidates.

Europe and South America have two representatives on the Board, with the others coming from Oceania, Asia, and North America. The incoming President, Kim Andersen is from Scandinavia.

In the voting for President, Andersen headed off incumbent Carlo Croce (ITA).

In the first of two round between three candidates, Kim Andersen received 44 votes, Carlo Croce 43 votes and Paul Henderson (CAN) 11 votes.

Prior to the election Croce, as sitting President had been nominated by 45 Member National Authorities, and largely held that loyalty. Henderson claimed to have the support of more than 10 MNA's (he was nominated by the minimum five).

In the second round with the lowest polling candidate dropping out, Andersen picked up most of Henderson's support - sufficient to get him over the required 50% threshold.
