The New Zealand 49er and 49er FX nationals are being held this weekend from Royal Akarana Yacht Club.

Sailing will be based in Mechanics Bay close to the shore with great viewing for spectators, with the traditional format of the NZ 49er nationals being lots of short (~ 12 minute) races – with a possible harbour course for the last race.

A number of international crews are expected to boost the local fleet, with the 2014 world champion Brazilian FX girls as well as the top 49er crews from Brazil, Argentina and USA. These crews are also expected to compete in Sail Auckland next week.

Local stars Alex Maloney and Molly Meech ( 2013 49erFX world champions) and Peter Burling and Blair Tuke (2013 and 2014 world champion 49ers) and Marcus Hansen and Josh Porebski (2013 World runners up) will be joined by development crews Erica Dawson and Ellie Copeland(Fx) and Isaac McHardie / Trent Rippey (49er).
Unfortunately Logan Dunning-Beck and Jack Simpson are unable to compete as Logan is recovering from a foot injury sustained recently while competing in Miami

For the junior crews moving into the 49er, this will be a chance to line up against the best in the world.
