After the amazing success of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Weymouth and Portland is becoming an increasingly popular destination for cruise liners this year.
Portland Port are ready for the cruise ship tourists to descend on Weymouth and Portland over the next few months 'The summer is going to be very exciting at the port, we have a record number of cruise calls visiting Portland, fantastic news for the future as the Port continues to develop, becoming ever popular with cruise companies all over the world.' With the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy located on shore a short distance from the cruise liner terminal, it is the perfect opportunity to pay a visit to a venue which played such an important part in the 2012 Games. Visitors can stop and have a drink in the Café whilst taking in the surroundings of the beautiful British coastline; you may even be lucky enough to spot an Olympian out training on the waters.
If you are visiting the area on a full day excursion, you may have time to try your hand at sailing or windsurfing on the Olympic waters, where WPNSA director and four times Olympics gold medallist Sir Ben Ainslie CBE won gold in the London 2012 Olympics.
Entry is free to the academy, and with the on-site sailing and windsurfing schools at SailLaser providing exciting experiences everyone is able to try their hand at sailing or windsurfing – all equipment and clothing being supplied. The huge success of the 2012 Games has put the WPNSA on the map as a must see place for all.
