Volvo Ocean Race- How the ropes are made for the Volvo Ocean Race

In this latest episode of Building the Future, Rick Deppe of Volvo Ocean Race, takes us on a tour of the Gottifredi Maffioli factory for a close-up view of the rope-manufacturing process for the one-design Volvo Ocean 65.

There are over 400 different strops, control lines, sheets, halyards and lashings on the new boat, which is being constructed by a consortium of four boatyards in the UK, Italy, France and Switzerland. Still in Italy, Rick Deppe goes to the Cariboni plant to check out the hydraulic systems for the canting keel before heading back to Green Marine.

There, we hear from Nick Bice, who is running the Shared Services operation as part of the new project. All that and more is included in a bumper edition of Building the Future.
