Volvo Auckland Stopover: Don't they look good!
|
The A team gathered in the Volunteers Centre in the Race Village on Saturday for a final briefing session and to pick up their official uniform. Some 200 volunteers braved the wind and rain to travel to the Viaduct for a session with the Auckland Stopover Heads of Department and Team Managers before donning their orange volunteers uniforms for a group photocall. Ruth Tuiraviravi, Head of Volunteers, was delighted with the day. 'We have an outstanding team of volunteers,' she said. 'And now the Stopover is getting so close, the excitement is really building up.' A number of volunteers have already started work on the Race Village build and administrative support with others starting work from Monday and more when the Race Village opens to the public on Thursday 8 March. Meanwhile Auckland Stopover organisers battened down the Race Village building site during the severe weather. More than seventy contractors are hard at work building the range of temporary structures that make up the Race Village in the Viaduct area. 'We worked with all our contractors to ensure that the site was prepared for whatever the weather brought,' said Port Director Tom Mayo. 'In addition, we took down signage and parts of other structures, reviewed every structure and adjusted the Race Village build schedule.'
